A Closer Look at a Summer Market Merchant: Maple Valley Farms

New This Year: Maple Milkshakes

One of the sweetest items to buy at a Farmers Market has to be maple syrup and all the items made from it. Along with its syrup products, you can find pure maple sugar candy, fresh maple cotton candy, maple cream butter and refreshing maple milkshakes at the Maple Valley Farms booth. The company is currently run by fifth generation owners Tim and Scott Monica. Maple Valley is a long-time supporter of the market, having attended for more than 15 years.

“Our maple ice cream shakes are a huge hit at the Saratoga County fair each summer and we’ve been asked time and time again by area markets if we can make them onsite,” Tim’s wife Kathy Monica said. “We decided to bring them to the Greenfield Farmers Market this summer and the response has been great.” The shakes cost $5 and are made from Maple Valley syrup, as well as local milk and ice cream from Stewart’s Shops.

“We love to support the community at this market,” Monica said. “It’s so fun to see people and share our story with them.”

Monica is super excited about the Greenfield market this year. “It gives people who live here and those passing through a chance to shop local,” she said. “There have been so many more people this year and great advertising.”

This Corinth farm has been in business since 1971, but the family has been producing syrup since 1800. The 3,000 taps of sugarbush each year come from four areas right here in Greenfield and additional taps in Corinth. Last year, Maple Valley produced 1,000 total gallons of maple syrup. Its sugar shack is located at 84 Harris Rd. in Corinth and you can follow them on Facebook at Maple Valley Farm-Monica’s

Monica said, “Don Monica, the boys’ father, taught his sons the art of making pure maple syrup and they are very proud to carry on this tradition.”

The Greenfield Farmers Market takes place on Thursdays at Middle Grove Park from 4-7 p.m.
